Running Rich and lack of power after HG replacement
Hi all,
Sad sad day for me and the 22re. After replacing my HG I noticed a huge use of gas for the short distance I went. The truck seems to be running rich and lacks the power it had after the rebuild 200 miles ago. (Yes the head gasket failed on the rebuild that quick. The head bolts came loose.)
Here is what I did do after the HG replacement
I noticed a Code 5 and unplugged and repluged in the wire to the distributer cap. Rest EFI fuse and the code did not persist.
Then I saw a Code 6 (Ox Sensor) but decided to adjust everything first.
1. Warmed Engine
2. Jumped Te and E1 (Or what ever the number and letters are)
3. Set idle to 750 rpm
4. Set Timing to 5 BTDC
5. Set the TPS
6. Rechecked idle and Timing.
After adjustment no Codes were thrown.
What could be causing the truck to run rich and loose power?

Picts as promised. Pulling a 11,000 pound trailer from Oregon to St. Louis. Didn't know it weighed that much until we arrived.
Over heating as we crossed over Utah to Wyoming. I used a box fan and an inverter to cool down the engine. Took about 5 minutes to return to a normal temp.
Power washing out the truck before the trip.

I was thankful it was the 1-ton. Stock is beefy brakes. Going up hill was slow, but on the flats it was easy to keep 60-65 miles per hour. Just slow getting up to speed.
Scuba.. sorry about your truck. It is easy to get attached to them. Mine was given to me by my dad. He bought it new off the lot.

the pics went showing up when i posted, that 11,000 lbs must have been gross combined vehicle weight? what did you have in that trailer? a load of lead?
in this pic i was at 14,500 gross - the 6800lbs my truck weights empty would be about a 7700lb load
i was at 21000 gross in this picture witch would make for an 14200lb load including the wave runner in the bed
the most i ever towed with the toyota was an 20ft trailer with an datsun 280zx on it without a motor or trans that i would guess was about an 4000lb load and it was all my truck could do to maintain 45 mph up an hill

best bet is the 02 sensor, when mine went it was brutal. It smelt sooo bad and ran like poop. Got a new one, wasnt much better but oh well. Then i did my timing chain, and acutally put the timing back where it was suppose to be and now it runs amazing...

Thank you to everyone. Yes it was the O2 sensor. The old one was caked in a white powder. At first I didn't see any results. I pulled the EFI fuse for about 30 seconds to reset the computer. Upon the next start up she flew down the street. It actually was a bit shocking.
