running out of ideas

I have a 90 toyota pickup with a 22re engine, the problem started one morning when i went to go start it..it started but with no power..when i floored it the engine slowly reved up..so i thought it jumped timing..took valve cover off and aligned the notches, everything lined up perfectly but i noticed one of the guides a little broken so i broke it down and put a new timing kit on and lined everything back up "took awhile" and put it back together but still the same old problem, so i tried to mess with the timing and when i did it started running better..i advanced the hell out of it and it seems to be running better but nothing like it was before the problem started and now it runs hot....replaced fuel filter, pump, timing chain, tensioner, guides, and air filter...checked and rechecked timing marks..put new distributor, wires and plugs, replaced coil and igniter..put a used tps on, bought a new tps... Please help running out of options and im tired of buying new parts..next step is calling junk yark or running it till it blows a head gasket...lol

added: checked cat converter also

I assume your compression and valve lash has been verified as good and you have no CEL? I don't think timing is the problem your just masking the problem with advancing the timing. I will think about this and try and get back to you soon.

it probably runs hot because you advanced the timing way too much. I agree with masking the problem by advancing the timing. Have you looked into troubleshooting the cold start system and testing the AFM?

it ran hot for awhile when i set the timing near where its supposed to be..almost to the 5 but still advanced, barley had any power. When i brought it to work and let a mechanic check it out he set the timing by ear and sure enough it runs like a champ and doesnt get hot at all...i read and read about the afm going out and nobody has the same problems as i do...the cold start system also has typical symtoms unlike the ones i am having..im hoping the cheap timing light i was using from ebay is the culprit but i doubt it would have such a delay or malfunction...my neighbor used to have a toyota pickup and he still has some parts left over..egr valve and etc. i replaced all of that today and still same ole problem

..

wait a second? timing by ear? are you jumping the connector to set timing? second person this week that I am unsure as to if they are setting the timing correctly and "advancing" the timing to get the engine to run better.
