Rough start/idle after heat soak

I got a 92’ pickup with a 22re. I recently started getting a rough start. Cold starts in the morning would be fine and I would drive to work fine. When I would go out for lunch it would start up rough and would almost turn off but I would blip it a couple of times and it would fix itself. I checked for codes and found code 31. I know it’s affected my mpg. I've already looked around the forums and found a thread saying that the iat gets heatsoaked which causes it to run rough? Prior to problems I’ve installed headers, egr block off plates, cold start injector blocked off, removed all vacuum lines except fpr and charcoal canister. It does have a bigger throttle body and I calibrated the tps.

Code 31 is Manifold and/or Airflow Meter Sensor Signal Circuit

i saw one of those threads, but it doesn't make sense here because for one thing you still have the factory cold air intake hooked up, which is smart... this iat thread for instance is for a relocated air box, looks like it's pulling in hot air from the engine compartment... there are some troubleshooting techniques in that thread that could help eliminate iat as an issue: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...66/index2.html

you could check the afm operation: https://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTr...FM/index.shtml

edit: it occurred to me that you could wrap a towel or something around the afm, zip tie it up, in order to eliminate heat soaking as an issue... if heat soaking was an issue tho it would be a design defect that affected all of the iat 22re's
