rough idle, rougher when cold, and popping during deceleration

ok before i get into this the truck i'm talking about is my 86 turbo pickup 22rtec 4x4 all stock besides an intake, exhaust, boost controller set at 10 psi, and greddy type s bov. ok heres the problem. i'll start my truck in the morning/when its cold and the truck never starts on the 1st crack. i gotta crank it, apply throttle then it will start. then when it finally starts it idles really rough and will even die certain times. if i get on the throttle it will sound like its running on 3 cylinders until warm. for now i have the idle set so it idles around 1000-1200 cold warm and 800 cold. then when it gets warmed up finally the motor rocks alot. this part doesn't bother me that much but i just thought id mention it. and it pops like a mother when i'm off the throttle. im leaning towards blown hg but not sure. any suggestions/past experience would be helpful. thanks in advance.

Could be valves, valve spring etc. Even spark plug cables, or plugs themselves.

Figure out which cylinder first. Lots of ways to do that.. I use leather gloves, and don't touch any metal... pull one cable at a time to find the bad one.

compression check will tell you if it's engine related (head gasket, rings, valves, etc). Or it will tell you that it is spark/fuel related.

service manual should say. Last i heard, 140+ is good, no larger difference than about 10 psi between cylinders.

Are you actually getting 10lbs of boost with a CT20? really? How long does it actually take to spool up that high?

The popping when decelerating is caused by a faulty/misadjusted dashpot. It wouldn't effect the engine performance, so that ain't likely the only problem. It is an emmissions device, and it can be compensated for by releasing the throttle more slowly when decelerating. It's purpose is to do just that, if you release the accelerator suddenly, the dashpot holds the throttle plate open temporarily, preventing that popping sound and lowering the emmission of one of them greenhouse gasses, I don't remember which.

Would that dashot dealy be a possible reason for some slight "popping" at idle? Mine seems to run nicley, but at idle is moves in about a 50-75RPM range at idle (just enough to hear), and pops a tiny bit.

it gets up there pretty quickly. if i had to guess i'd say 3000-3500 rpms full boost. any higher than 10psi and i hit what i think is fuel cut. not sure actually lol.

ok so i changed the spark plugs and same thing. im gonna try and comp check the motor we'll see what happens.

Not to suggest that being off a tooth is the probem, but the short answer is yes according to others on this forum. As I recall it shows up as a problem in timing adjust, but will run fine at idle. I'm sure you can find the references with a search.
