rough idle after highway driving
Hi,
I have an 86 pickup 22r, automatic. It drives great around town. If I get on the highway and drive for a bit, get off, first stop it will idle very rough, sometimes shut off if i let it go that far (usually put it in park and give it gas and that sort of maybe helps?) Definitely only happens when the engine is warm, and ONLY after driving highway speeds. I could drive it in town all day it and it wont give me any issues. Something sticking? secondary throttle of the carb?
I checked the choke plate and it seemed fine and wasnt sticking. the Muir book "how to keep your toyota alive" suggests vacuum leaks (checked, no), sparks plug connections, etc (no, actually.. car used to idle rough in town as well, changed the plugs and all the wire connections right away and it helped significantly, but still idles rough after highway driving), carburetor checks....
so checked the choke, looks fine
then he mentions something about an anti diesel valve - I dont get it. truck not diesel
electrical connections on the carb- seems fine
what else? This is my first carburetor vehicle and I'm pretty new to this and honestly just getting around to understanding how it works. the book really helps. but any personal experience?
Thank you!
Sonya

Mine will do something similar from time to time (not always) and it doesn't get to the point of shutting off. Since it is so random I haven't looked into it.
I have a guess, just a rough guess, it may have to do with the advance, or related item, sticking.
The anti-diesel is about the other type of diesel where the vehicle keeps running after it is shut off.
What condition is your truck/engine in? Old/rebuilt, clean/dirty etc
