I have a 91 4wd pickup. When the weather is nice and warm outside I never hear this noise but as soon as the temp drops down close to freezing I get a roaring noise on the right side of the front end. I replaced the wheel bearings at the last brake job and that didn't help. With the wheel off and when I shake it everything seems tight. Maybe the CV shaft? Thats what im thinking. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help.

Not the tire. Have replaced the tires and still have the noise.

 

It's not the tire...

It's your spindle bushings. They need to be greased, however there not easy to grease. Sleeoffroad has a great little tool for this and, ironcally, I just ordered one. Mine will start to make a bad noise when it's cold out and my hubs are locked, which is the only time the front CV's turn. I unlock my hubs and it goes away...therefore I know its the spindle bushing. If you have the ADD hubs, your CV are always spinning and the bushing goes out a lot quicker.

Christo shows using it on a 100 series landcruiser, but the spindle is the same between the landcruiser and our generation of trucks.

 

You can make your own tool pretty easily too... and you won't need to remove or re-set your axle nut. Scroll down towards the bottom of this thread for pics:
