i used the same kinda thing underneath my wheelhouse

if you notice underneath the wheelhouse, there is a rubberized coating that protects it from the environment. Well, i bought a can from pep boys for 5 bucks that is a "pure rubber coating" in a spray can. It wasn't as thick, but i have been considering spraying it if my carpet goes bad. It takes bout an hour to dry.

 

Yeah, I plan to do my interior too. Imagine the lack of padding on the inside makes for a noisy ride, though.

 

The 1 gallon kit of herculiner is around $70 at Wal-Mart. I have a toneau cover on my truck and even 6-9 months after rolling the liner on it still has a pretty strong smell if you crawl in the bed (to install/uninstall the toneau cover). Me personally, I would think twice about doing Herculiner inside a vehicle cab because of the residual smell/fumes. Maybe Rhino Liner or Line-x does not have the smell.

 

im just waiting on some better weather to do mine...i need some 60 or 70 degree weather before i think about getting into working on the truck.

also i was planning on using the duplicolor kit they sell at wally world or advanced auto, its cheaper and i have read a few reviews and people seem to like it better them the herculiner. comes in a spray can or roll on kit as well...

 

Durabak does not smell nearly as much as Herculiner.

 

i work at walmart and havant seen it there or at lowes. they may have stopped carrying it or they may just not have it at my yota funder

thats what i was thinking of, i used it in the back of my 4runner and my friend used it in his jeep

its easy to spray on, make sure to use multiple coats

and it looks really good

 

Ive done two 4runners so far and the Herculiner has lasted longer and held up better than the durabak. Prep is the key. The scuffing pad works ok. But to be safe take a flap disk with a descent grit to it. The rougher the surface the better. It took me about 4 hours total to do the work. Make sure to tape off all bolt holes. The first time around I took out the factory sound deadening material. I learned from my mistakes and left it in the second time.

 

I put foam earplugs in the bolt holes for the seats and belts, took them out the next morning.

 

Thats a very good idea. I just used paper towls. Wish I would thought of that.

 

so, you leave the sound deadening material, and just put the bedliner over it?

 

Birthday is today and she listened lol..Hopefully I'll get it done over the weekend..I'll take pics and do a write up for those that have asked.

 

SWEET!!!! Might want to make sure that brush on top of the can is strong, because i remember hearing on extreme 4x4 they come apart.

I'm wanting to do this with my 4Runner. I ripped the nasty carpet out and I'm just not happy with the floor the way it is.

 

I bought a kit to do my bed...A flapper disc to scuff paint? The only time I used a flapper disc on my angle grinder it took off metal. The paint came off instantly.
