About that dummy light, when is it supposed to turn on???

 

Mine comes on with about 2 gallons left in the tank.

And the tank is an 18 gallon tank right????

 

I think it's more like 15.3 gallons, correct me if I'm wrong

 

I have been drafting semi trucks and squeaking out close to 25mpg with my 22re. =P

 

4Runners with the P225 tire option came with the smaller tank -- roughly 17 gallons. The ones with 31x10.50 tire package came with a slightly larger tank -- about 18.3 gallons. This is for 2nd gens. ( I'm doin' this from memory ,, don't have my Owner's Manual handy ).

I have a 95 2wd with the stock 225 tires and I've been averaging between 20 -21 mpg. I commute about 65 miles round trip - mostly hwy, but with a lot of stoppages. I use the cruise and set it at about 68mph (speed limit is 70 in TN). Definitely better than I expected when I bought it 8 mo ago.

 

Sometimes it's better to have 2WD instead of 4WD. Mainly when you need the mpg's.

 

I regularly get about 17.5-18 mpg with mostly in town driving on my runner. that's with 4.56s and 31's (origonally 225s). Biggest improvement for me was fixing a shorted out O2 sensor, I picked up at least 3-4 mpgs.

 

is that an auto or manual?

 

auto, i drive pretty conservatively. the entire ignition system is pretty much new, new o2 sensor, and tires are at 36 psi.

it helps if you don't race from the lights also.

 

i filled up once in november i realized i only got about 8 to the gallon and thats with driving slow! 150 miles to a tank forturnately got a snorkle for christmas and now i get 13!

 

My record tank has been roughly 305miles. I went from 260 to 295 miles to a tank on average when I added my new custom cat-back and ISR mod. I'm hoping that when I fix a couple engine qwalms that I can maintain with my upcoming rim/tire combo.

 

92 3.0 4x4 x-cab 5speed....

Bought the truck with 170k 31x11.50 tires 4.56ish gears and avged 16 around town 18 interstate.

now it has 180k and 30x9.50 BFG A/t's my rpms are up and compensating for the speedo I now get about 14 around town and 16 maybe 17 hwy.

wish I had gone bigger with the tires instead of down, these motors seem to like to be driven in the sweet spot around 2700 rpms.

 

I have a question. Lately I've been driving very easy to save gas, and I am getting about 12 MPG city. I was wondering if there is something else causing me to get this mileage, or am i getting wrong information from my trip odometer. Its a 91' 4runner SR5 3.0 with 31x10.5 A/T's. Is it possible my trip odometer is off? If it were off, my odometer would still be accurate, right? Thanks.

 

I would replace the O2 sensor. Other than that, a basic tune-up might be in order (depending on when it was done last). Under-inflated tires will kill your mpg as well.

I doubt your odometer has anything to do with it.

 

If your 02 sensor is bad will your check engine light come on?

 

KTMR1der: Unless your Runner 'came' stock with 31's, you might just be off the 10% or so due to the taller tires. The 31's are roughly 10% taller than the P225's that may have come stock on your vehicle. If this is the case, you need to add 10% more mileage per trip (fill-up of fuel) before you calculate the MPG. For example: your trip ODO shows 140 miles driven on the first half of a tank. Add 14 miles to that to correct for miles traveled by the bigger wheels that the ODO doesn't know about. That makes 154 actual miles traveled. Then divide that number by the gallons of fuel you put in to fill up the tank.
