Reasons for power steering???
My Power steering belt just snapped and after smelling burnt rubber for a little while, I realized I actually LIKED having to put a little more effort into turns. Weird I know, but is there really any good reason to have power steering besides convenience??
Also, will the engine put out more power since it doesnt have to feed the pump?

well on stock tires, it's probably not that big a deal. When my idler pulley BLEW UP, it really sucked navigating parking lots and such without ps. On the interstate it wasn't even noticeable.

yeah, I figured on tight stuff it would be kind of tough - but really this truck is more of a DD and really wont see serious crawling type trails often if at all. Plenty of fireroads and moderate trails but I kind of like the idea of fighting the steering wheel a bit. I also feel like there is more feedback from the road without the PS.

Mine came stock without power steering. It is so base model that it has a carburetor, no power steering, and no A/C

The property manager here thinks that without the pump working it might put additional or excessive pressure on other steering components like the box or the tie rod - is this true, or will there be the same amount of wear on the components with or without the pump?

but it may put more stress on the steering linkage between the steering wheel and gearbox, depending on how strong you are
there's a leather-like "rag joint" in there that's made to obsorb harsh bumps and jolts so that you don't feel every pebble on the road; that might be the first thing to ware out

Totally not worth it to run with manual steering. My truck didn't come with it and parking sucked big time, same thing with three-point turns. I haven't noticed any power or mileage difference since installing power steering on my truck. The only change has been me liking to drive my truck a whole lot more.

for me, something is FUBAR'd with my first gear, so i have to physically hold my shifter in first gear from start to finish when i shift into 2nd, otherwise it'll just pop out of gear. while i'm holding it in gear, it works just fine. however, that only leaves 1 hand to steer. and when i blew up my PS pump, it SUCKED HARDCORE to go through parking lots at 1mph around curves with only 1 hand to turn the wheel. it was awful. if i didn't have to hold my shifter in gear and could use both hands, might not be that bad.

yeah i had a bad power steering pump when I had 31's and it sucked in parking lots but on the road you can't tell a difference at all really. I'd say fix it if it bugs you. lol. It bugged me really bad becuase of the tight college parking lots.. I had to do a 20 point turn to get out.. now a have 37s and i just back up into peoples cars.
