rear window sensor--tail gate problem
Here is my new project for this fall and winter. ;88 4cyl 5spd 4x4. Ran an '87 for years and have now upgraded to a newer vehicle
Gonna need some tranny work as she won't go into fourth gear and there is a scratchy/grindy sound coming from her as i go through the gears but stops when clutch is engaged. New tires, rims, windsheild, body work, lift kit,,etc is all coming somewhere in the next few months
My question for you lads is how do i get my tailgate to close all the way? I need someone to lean on the tail gate a bit to engage the rear window sensor. Anyone have a suggestion or have fixed a problem like this before? Any and all help will surely be appreciated.
Great site and please bear with me as i am not very mechanically inclined so i will be asking lots of questions.

Played around this morning with a thought of rigging up a bungee cord to pull it in some more. However, i figured the sensor wasn't even touching when it was closed so i "built up" the latch with tin-foil and now it works like a charm.
The gate is gonna need some rust work this winter so this quick fix will do for now.

ah so we see you now!!!
ok as for the tail gate on the drivers side theres a switch it has to be fully latched for it to work the rear window and let the gate light on the dash go out!
if its hard to close but easy to do it by hand ie... with the gate open and useing your finger and it latches easy.... then theres something in the gate jamb maybe the little rubber thingamabober there i just removed all mine but then it rattles just a little bit other then that it could be a bent bottom tail gate when its open look at the bottom of the gate closer to the truck now and see if its stright and that could be it also
