I'm trying to freshen up my rear axle while doing my frame repair. I pulled the axle springs and all. The bolts through the front eyes had to be torched out and i will be replacing them, no problem.

The shackles came out of the hangers and the bushing came off without too much trouble. But the problem is where they go through the eye at the rear of the spring. I have no problem torching the bushings to get them out.

Do most people just make new shackles with stock plate and bolts?

It looks like there is a sleeve pressed in to the spring eye, front and back, does that come out or stay when I put new bushings in?

Is there a sleeve on the bolts on the shackles?

 

Most new bolts are greaseable and not sleeved and most bushings are poly not rubber.

If it were mine I'd just upgrade.

I have the complete Energy Suspension kit on it's way from LCE. I'm just rtying to get everything prepped so when it gets here I can start reassembly. Since I have the stock offset shackles I would like to keep that set-up. I was thinking of getting a set of your or 4crawler's greasable bolts and drilling out the stockers.

Do you think that would be acceptable? Also do you know if I go to an 18mm bolt will the stock replace UR bushings from Energy Suspension fit? I haven't micced the shackle parts yet to see what size they are.

 

I know I could probably just fab up some new shackles with flat bar, but I'm trying not to mess with spacers and such.

 

Based on this picture (from 4crawler):

It looks like the top bolt through the hanger and the bottom bolt through the spring eye are two different widths. If I go 18mm for both will I have problems finding bushings?

 

hey i did kinda the same thing. you have to get the sleeves in the eyes of the stock leafsprings out(not fun). then the energy susp. bushings will fit perfect in the stock leafspring eye hole thing once you get the sleeve out. and i'm not sure about the stock shackles. i just bought the marlin crawler 1" extended shackles(closest to stock size but still beefed up) and. they are awesome...the marlin crawler greasable bolts fit perfect in both the enegry susp. and the marlin crawler.

 

Since I replace with stock springs I just get the shackle kits from Toyota.

No mess just cut the old ones out and replace with new their are different part numbers for different years some look different others look the same the Toyota way

I have used the Energy suspension bushings on the new kits with no problem
