Rear brakes?

Anyone had their entire rear brakes replaced on 90-95 four runner? The drum and all. If so how much did the shop charge? I got brand new rear brakes on both sides, and new axle bearings pressed on boths sides for $800. I havent actually paid yet because I think this is way overpriced. This is a regular shop not a dealer ship. Does this sound about right? Or should I have reason to bitch?

I got mine done about 2 years ago for $500 at a shop in Statesboro. It may be overpriced but if they did a good job it may be worth it.

Did you not ask . How much is this gonna cost???

Before you had the work done. I know that the rear wheel bearings are expensive not to mention the labor.

If you are talking parts and labor . i can see where it could be that much .

Where all the e-brake parts replaced as well.

For whatever reason you could not do this job yourself.

Yes I asked but it didnt matter cause it has to be done anyways. It started out to be just a bearing replacment which is only 150 for parts and like 125 for labor. The drums were so rusted they had to cut both sides off to get to the bearings. I live in apt and dont really have the tools to do the brakes anyways. Could have done the bearings but dont have a press, would have bought one if i knew it was going to turn into this.

My personal opinion is,the price might be "tad" high, but that depends on how many knuckles the mechanic shaved doing the labor.
I had my rear brakes replaced and new bearings done for $450.00 here in Lancaster,Pa at C&D racing. No problems since (1 year ago).

i find it hard to believe the drums had to be burned off maybe you meant heated.

If they were burned off it would have trashed all the brake parts.

I have never in about 30 years had a drum I could not remove . I have spent all my life in the salt belt.

That sounds a bit high. You might call a couple of other shops and just see what they would charge to do a similar job.

Agreed...burning the drums off? Not only would it trash all the brake parts, but the backing plate as well.
Heated of...even then, that's a big maybe. Their hasn't been a drum I couldn't pry off (if not, backing the brake adjuster off) in many years.
This is a first, that I've heard of someone burning drums off.
