Rear axle seals With ABS
I have a inner axle seal that is leaking so i thought i would replace the outer seal and check the bearing. When iIhad it apart. All the links and searches are for non ABS axles. The fsm talks about grinding and chiseling off the ABS sensor ring. Has anyone done this? Is the dealership the only place to get the new ring? Is it a PITA as far as i can tell the outer seal is ok. Should I just do the inner seal and wait until I have a problem to open that can of worms.

i am going through this right now too. you could probably use a bearing separator to pull the collar and ring without damaging them but it may not be worth it. the ring is readily available and the collars came with my wheel bearings. i puller the first one, which was a complete pain so i cut the second one off very carefully.
the only thing i'm not sure of is how far the abs ring/collar retainer is supposed to be pressed onto the axle. if you have the FSM does it cover the 2000 4runner limited? if so can you tell me that dimension? thanks!
