Rear axle bearing seating depth question

How far in the backing plate should the rear axle bearing be seated? I'm replacing the axle seals and noticed the drivers and passengers bearings were at different heights . One seems fully driven in and sits below the bottom of the bevel on the backing plate. This seems right to me but this side was leaking worse. The other side had the top of the bearing even with the top of the bevel on the backing plate.

Fully seated?

Bearing almost even with flange.

I don't think it matters, because the bearing is pushed in and held at the correct depthing when the backing plate is bolted up to the axle housing.
It has been my observation that the bearing does'nt set too tightly in the backing plate, so that it easily moves to adjust position when the unit is bolted up. No worries.
