I have a 1995 4runner and it just started to make a rattling noise in the engine. It sounds like a bolt rattling around in side. When it is idling I can not hear it but when I rev the engine it starts to rattle.

has the rattle just begun? How long since the timing belt was replaced? Any recent services to the truck?

 

Mine 1994 Toyota does that too but i just bought it so i didn't know anything about it. I thought it was just something in my exhaust.

 

Is this a 22re (4cylinder) or 3vze (6cylinder)? How many miles on the engine? Where does the rattle appear to come from?

Might check : valves, timing chain, base timing -- for starters.

it is a 22re and i though it was just something it the exhaust since i only hear it when i start it and when i am giving it gas. 135,000 miles on it
