Iam considering buying a new fan clutch for my 94 pickup 22r-e.
The sympthoms are when the truck is idling and fully warmed up, turn on the air conditioner and the temperture gauge will raise slowly anywhere from a bump over half, to 3/4, which at that point I turn off the a/c and truck.
The fan is spinning and cannot be slowed down when the a/c is on.
When the truck is stopped, by hand the fan can be spun, but no very fast.
An other thing is this problem does not happen at all when driving on the road???????
Anyone know whats going on?

The problem is your fan is not pulling enough air at idle to adequately lower your water temp. The problem doesn't exist while driving because of the increased ambient airflow and fan speed which is proportional to your engine speed(rpm). More information is needed to suggest a fix, such as has this problem just developed or has it always been present. Also others with the 22re may help you on this one, but it may be normal. If you haven't done so in the past couple of years, I would suggest you flush your cooling system and replace the fluid with a greater water/coolant ratio, if your environmental conditions allow. There are many ways you can boost the efficiency of your cooling system ranging from lower temp t-stats, synthetic coolants, coolant additives, oil coolers, electric fans, thicker radiators, H2O, CO2, N2O spraying, etc...

Do you have the stock fan shroud on the rad?

If not, that might be the problem.

The exact thing happened to me last summer. The problem was the radiator coolant was about 1.5 quarts low. After I added the coolant the problem went away.

This could be several things from a missing fan shroud, low water, bad fan clutch, or a radiator that's corroded inside.

You might want to look and make sure that there isn't a bunch of debris trapped between the condenser and the radiator blocking the airflow.

well, problem solved
My radiator had a small leak, so I bought a new 3 row radiator.
I had the radiator for a while but never put it in because dreaded making radiator relocator brackets that were never installed when the truck was body lifted(thanks to the original owner) so I bought a good drill press and 1"x1" steel tubing and made the radiator relocator brackets. I replaced the thermostat and flushed the system. Put it all in and problem solved.
