quick help w/ transfer case fluid please

So i noticed my transfer case was leaking a little bit from the rear flange so i took out the fill plug to check fluid level and fluid started gushing out. besides previous owner over filling what could this be?

I'm searching right now but trying to hurry before I run out of light, please help me out. thanks guys

Sorry, it's dark now...
Unlike the FJ60 I had twice, I'm pretty sure the trans and tfr don't communicate oil on these. Just to be sure, why not open the fill on the trans and check to see that the level is normal. If so, it's probably a PO job on the tfr.

Well the trans has a leak coming from up top from base of the stick, but what i did was drain the transfer case and leave the drain plug out while i topped off the trans. i didn't notice any additional flow coming out of the transfer case, so I guess it was just over filled from the previous owner. hopefully the transfer case leak goes away now that its not overfilled.

Sorry for over reacting, i just cant stand when things aren't right/normal so i freak out. Thanks
