questions need help with

When I tore the motor down to rebuild it everything looks fine but there was a piece of aluminum and what looks to be a spring in the oil pan anybody know what this could possibly be from

Which motor? Usually I find Timing Guides in the oil pan. Pictures of the spring would help. Since you have the motor tore down, it needs to go to the machine shop to find out if it is rebuildable and what will need done. At this stage of the rebuild process, I would not be to concerned with the spring other then where it came from.

Valve spring or spring on the Chain Tentioner is all I can think of right off.

Its the 22re. And its at the machine shop just took it to a machine shop this morning and the shop I took it to is a high performance shop that builds race car engines so he should know whether or not its rebuildable
