Was going to set the valve clearance on my 89' 4runners 22re engine, and I noticed the valve adjusters, the part that rides on the top of the valve, looks like they are all slightly worn. Not much, but there is a definate wear pattern on them.

With the block totally gone thru, and brand new cylinder head and cam, kinda foolish to use adjusters that have 175,000 miles on them, huh?

Another trip to the dealership tomorrow. Anybody know how much these run in price? Thanks.

When I rebuilt my 22RE I put in new everything, any wear part, no sense in putting old "suspect" parts back in a newly rebuilt engine.

You should expect to bend over.

You mean the screws for adjusting the valves?
Expect to pay $40 at the dealer for OEM rockers.
Discount dealer, more like $21-24. No idea what the screws cost.

The followers do tend to wear to match the valves and cam. You can have the rockers themselves ground true again, but how effective that is I don't know. You already know that the adjusting screws are replaceable. I installed all new followers when I did my engine, like others have said you spent all that money already, why throw it away? FWIW, LC Engineering will sell you a complete rocker assembly for something like $350, this is 8 new rockers, adjusters and nuts, all the springs and washers and both rocker shafts and includes the stand girdle. It's the whole shooting match and they use Toyota parts (don't know if the stand is new or just cleaned up). This is a decent price when comparing against all the individual parts. The rockers are about $25 each ($200 for 8), the adjusters and nuts are about $4 each ($32 for 8) and the shafts I think are at least $50 each ($100 for 2). Add the springs, stand and all that, so it's probably $50 cheaper than getting them piece-wise.

Thanks for the good info.

I'm still amazed one can go to google, type in the part number of those adjusters, and meaningful data comes back in less than one second. I find stuff like this mind bogglling.

Again, I appreciate the info.
