Power Steering Pump Rebuild?
What I thought was just a front main seal leak is also a power steering pump leak. I'm 99% sure it is since the alternator is covered in sludge. I checked my local parts store and the cheapest pump is $178 :p But they do have a seal kit for $25. Wondering if it's worth a try? Time doesn't matter since this truck is not a daily. It's a 90' 4runner 22re.

How much fluid have you needed to add to the power steering pump ?
Just what caused it start leaking ?? Bad bearings will not be fixed by replacing seals.
I can get the same pump for less then $90.00 plus the core charge .

i replaced the seals in mine a few months ago, after verifying the bearings and shaft were good. i also cleaned the hard and soft line connections, and replaced the hose clamp. alternator has remained oil-free all summer - no squealing.

It's most likely leaking because the fluid hasnt been changed in years. It was all brown. I probably drove it few hundred km since I flushed and replaced the system with dex 3, its only a few mm below the hot full line after I had it bang on.
I'll probably pull and inspect it before buying the kit though. They also sell the bearing too for $20. Dont think I can get a better price on a remanufactured or new pump since im in Canada.

There's a couple places that engine oil can leak onto the p/s pump and alternator. Are you sure it's atf leaking? It can be hard to tell when everything is old and brown. Check the distributor shaft o-ring and the distributor hold-down bolt. The bolt needs sealant cause it goes through into the head.
