Power steering pump
My power steering pump is leaking on my 1988 TP 22re. I didn’t see any info in the forums so I wanted to get yours guys opinions on which brand I should get? I’m going to replace the pump ASAP and want to get the best quality I can. Any info is appreciated! Thanks guys

They can be rebuilt: https://22reperformance.com/suspensi...e-toyota-parts
Mine had a leak where the suction tube attaches to the pump and only needed one o-ring to fix. Was an easy job, just one bolt to remove.

So if I order that one O-Ring, what is the location called where it goes? A newbie question I know but I want to make sure I get the right one. Thanks for your reply and time. I’ll try the O-Ring before buying a new one.

I didn't use a toyota o-ring, just found the right size in an o-ring kit I had, this GATES 349030 kit would have that o-ring and others you may need: https://www.partsgeek.com/185s1p1-to...+Pump+Seal+Kit
Here is the o-ring that solved my leak:

The two I had to replace
I had the same trouble. The power steering pump leaked. No real severe problem, right? Wrong!
It leaked down onto the alternator. It got to the point I was replacing it every 3-6 months. Absurd for decent quality alternators.
The two O-rings I specified in the picture above are where the actual leaks were, but...
I am not a power steering expert. Not even a tyro, but something had to be done. On my pickup, I got lucky. I had loaned it to my daughter to use while she was in the Marines, stationed at Camp Pendleton. Fortunately, unlike many WM's (Woman Marines), or BAM's as we called a lot of them (broad-a$$ed Marines ), although seldom to their faces or we got to practice hand-to-hand combat, she was actually a very attractive young woman. Got a lot of modeling offers for when she got out. Anywho, she took the truck to the station's air-wing's Hyd Shop, batted her eye's a few times, and they built new hoses for the truck, and rebuilt the pump and actuator. Whole new system, built by Marine professionals. Hasn't leaked a drop since
Wasn't so lucky with the 4Runner. I had to take it to a mechanic. They rebuilt the pump, and replaced the hoses with new ones from Toyota. Yes, they had to replace the alternator too, drat it. Anywho, no leaks any more.
I did discover why I had such sever leaks though. I used power steering fluid for both trucks. I finally read the FSM. None of that stuff for them any more!! Only the specced out fluids now. Seems odd, putting automatic transmission fluid in the power steering system, but hey, it's what Toyota says, so...
By the way, the hoses WILL degrade over time. Be aware!
Good luck on your system!
