power steering fluid leak

Power steering fluid leaks out of the driver side of my truck (1990 sr5 4x4 3vze) I first noticed this about a month ago because it left about a 2 foot wide puddle in about a day. I filled up the reservoir with new "leak stopping" power steering fluid and it went away until about two days ago. Now it just drips out very slowly. I think there is a bad seal but can't tell. If anyone could show me how to look for that I would appreciate it. Also is there any alternative to replacing the seal? I heard i can be heard to do. Thanks.

Hey! Sorry no one has responded at all. It could be a bad seal or it could something else, but not much. What I mean is do a search on power steering pump/leak and there are threads answering your questions.

I had a leak for a long time. Turned out it was only a loose bolt on the pump body. Leak gone.

Check the hose clamps on everything related to the PS system. There's a good chance that they've loosened over the years. Then clean everything and re-examine frequently. Hopefully you'll be able to tell where the leak is coming from if the clamps weren't the issue. Also, check your owners manual for the correct type of fluid for your vehicle. Using the wrong fluid can cause leaks as well.

Right after I did a SAS I got a power steering leak. The leak was coming out of a bolt right on the top of the steering box. All I did was tighten that down and taa daa it was fixed.

I had a problem with mine leaking a couple months ago. It turns out the rear seal blew out in the pump and I bought a reman pump from a auto parts store. Works great. no more leaks.

Mine was leaking. I bought some high mileage ATF (has seal conditioners in it). I flushed the power steering system, refilled it with the same ATF, and it stopped the leak (and noise).

I kept blowing seals on the gearbox input shaft (where steering wheel hooks up) went through 3 gearboxes & decided to shell out the $400 to Allpro Offroad for the lifetime gearbox. Been leak-free for 3 years running....at least from the gearbox

wash it off first, then run the truck, have somebody turn the steering wheel to increase pump pressure, then look for the leak...

won't be hard to find
