Hello everyone, iv been a huge fan of yotatech for the past 9 months and it has helped me beyond belief fixing my 1986 pickup sr5. I am now here to ask for your knowledge in diagnosing my power steering issues.

Iv been battling a powersteering gear box leakk for 4 months now i used Lucas powersteering stop leak which worked for the summer but the first cold night (-20°C) I went to start my truck and the power steering was squealing. I figured the stop leak was too thick for the pump to move in the cold and would slip the belt (belts were worn from so much mud that year) so I replaced the belt and drained the fluid and filled with Atf dex III, start it up and no more sound. Figuring I beat the powersteering monster I went to bed and wake up to an chilly -23c. Start my truck and the squaling turned to a howl and then I notice a massive puddle under the truck of atf..... I pop the hood and the powersteerig fluid is foaming out the top of the resivour!! I needed to go to work so I drove it anyways and when I got to work after warming up it wasn't foy anymore Figuring I have an air lock from bleeding the system I try and work the air out by Jacki g the front up and turning the Wheels with the truck off then running. Still no better. Took off the resivour and took it apart and cleaned the screen. I'm stumped there is no visable leak at the pump and this happenes every morning when its cold but once the fluid gets warm is fine..

Please yotatech give me guidance!!

Are you by chance over filling it??

The level is checked with the pump running

If your still losing fluid every time you drive is it being sucked into the engine through the vacuum lines??

 

Its all properly filled and bled I think.. The problem is air in the pump causing foaming but I'm not really sure what that's all about this only happpes when the fluid is -20 not when its warm sitting in a shop

 

Going to the wrecker tomorrow to find a new pump hopefully all works out

Haha very well could be! Weathers harsh up up here on toys or what's left of them its supposed to be warmer for a week -5 or so but just the beginning of winter very common to get bellow -35c without windchill so I want to get this figured out!
