Power Steering

I have a small problem. With the cold nights lately, my power steering has been making a little noise. I go to check it and its low. Having read these threads for awhile, I know P.S. Fluid does not go into the resevoir, A.T.F. goes in there. Ditto for the Owners Manual in the glove box. I look around in the cubby hole in the back passengers side and find Dexron III and Power Steering fluid.
First question is "Does Dexron III replace Dexron II" with no ill effects?
Second question is if a previous owner put PS Fluid in the resevoir, how do I get it out? Can I get it out? Is it worth the effort to try? What do I have to replace? Is the P.S. system ruined?
All right that was 5.
Seventh question is should I add Dexron III to a resevoir when I do not know its contents?
Thanks, Phil

Dexron III is Dexron II, but updated.

Power steering fluid isn't going to hurt it, just top it off with ATF.
