power door locks w/ manual windows

i've got a 1992 SR5 extra cab. in short, i would like to add power door locks (for the purposes of convenience and improving my alarm set up) from a junkyard donor but keep my manual windows (i am not a fan of power windows). i've yet to verify but i'm assuming my SR5 has the necessary cables inside the door so it would be a matter of relocating the switches elsewhere (i'm thinking of putting them on the center console).

can it be done? i'm guessing it can but i'm not sure on how much of a cabling mess i will end up with. i'd appreciate your thoughts (not on whether it is a good idea or not but on what it will take to get it done). thanks

alfio

I think most stereo shops can do it for around $50 a door. When I got my alarm installed I over heard some dude talking to a customer about doing it to his truck. It only took about an hour.

Go ask around at a stereo place.

I had power locks installed in my truck by a local stereo shop. They did have a little trouble wiring it up to my alarm though

I had some solenoids installed on an alarm on my 88 4Runner. It worked for keyless entry, but I didn't have switches installed on the door so thats they only way they worked.

Like kiyobrown I had them installed in my first 86 and they worked with the alarm, no switch in side the cab but I remember when I did it it was a possibility ad a switch in the cab, it was simple and cheap and I think I would rather go aftermarket then try to track down factory parts

These are very easy to put in yourself, just run 2 wires to wherever you want to install a switch.
They take about an hour to install in any vehicle.

thanks for the ideas - i think i'm leaning towards power door locks without the in cab switch. that solves all issues and i can use it with my alarm.

I installed a kit like this and it worked well with my alarm/keyless entry.
Mine was more like a few hours per door though.

My kit came with a control unit.

Sorry, I put them in for 24 years. They don't take me that long.
Probably a 2-3 hours for the first door, then one hour for the second door if it's your first time.
