Finally... After about a billizon hours of troubleshooting, I've come up with a tested plug and play system that works with stock toyota wiring.

Basically I create a harness out of a "core" ECU and integrate it to megasquirt. It's +1 wire (02 heat ground) and needs a vacuum line from the intake. With the kick panel removed, I can swap in in and out in under 1 minute.




For those of you who are not familiar with it, it's a completely programmable ECU. It allows you to changing the timing curve, the fuel map, acceleration costants, warm up enrichment, basically anything you'd ever want to play with in the land of EFI.

If you have a *significantly* modified motor, this is the way to go.
If you've got a turbo or supercharger - this is the *only* way to go.

Lightly modified motors - go spend money elsewhere, unless you really want to be able to tweek everything!

This is a budget replacement for a system like SDS or FAST, both of which run over $1500.

Cost? Around $350 for the DIYer.. I'm not selling the units, I'll refer to a vendor. I'm working on a source of them that should cost around $300, but to date no one has built them to my satisfaction.

These can come pre-tuned and plug and play!

Until people buy the one for the 22RE, I'm not playing with the 3VZE. I've got over 80 hours in this thing - and thats not counting MS assembly.. It's been painful and a real learning experience.

The good news for the 3.0 people is that the 3VZE is VAST ignition also. If you can do spark, the fuel side is cake! I know of one successful implementation.


Megasquirt uses speed density calculations, so yes, it uses a MAP sensor. It's already on the circuit board - you can see the black vac hose in the photo.
The AFM is no longer necessary, although it should be left and place for the easiest "plug and play" implementation. If removed, I have to configure the harnesses slightly differently.

 

Hoping to bring this thread back from the MySpace era. I would love to have the ability to tweak the timing/cycle for my 3vze. I'm slowly poking around to see what I can find. Someday I would like to implement a DIY cam-less "freevalve" set up just like this guy did with his Miata (youtu.be/E9KJ_f7REGw) but take it a bit further with the goal of making a variable cycle engine that can go from running on a 4-stroke cycle to a 6-stroke cycle with the flick of a switch For anyone unfamiliar with the 6-stroke concept, the 2nd power stroke is done with heated expansion of air or steam. And in order to do that, I'd need the ability to tweak fuel delivery. Maybe the Mega Squirt is the right path? Do you happen to still have any pics from your set up? TIA
