Please Help!!! 22re Problems

i have a 1990 toyota pickup with the 22re, i think the engine was swapped from an older model and it wasnt done correctly. i have a cluster *mod edit* of sensors and vacuum lines, no o2 sensor, and a rough idle. when the tps is kept completely open it is drivable but very slow and no power past half throttle, when its on properly the engine stutters a lot. Im very handy so i just need someone to walk me through the steps involved. i work on a farm so i have a full shop at my disposal. i really need to get this thing running or im gonna have to sell it, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Having no O2 sensor is definitely one reason its not running correctly.

Not necessarily. Depends on everything else in the motor. If everything was working correctly, you may not even notice it's gone until the motor is warm. Might have a slight loss in power and fuel efficiency. That is if the hole the where the sensor was is plugged up. On a '90, though, the sensor is down the exhaust pipe. So, then, all you would probably notice is a loud exhaust. On earlier models where the sensor is in the manifold, that might be a problem........if that's what you're referring to??

wrichardson.......your issues may be long and drawn out trying to sort out the mess, as you describe it, over the internet. If you're willing to start from square one running through, possibly, a gammut of troubleshooting procedures with folks that can't be there to see or listen to the motor, then you will get all the help this forum can give. If you don't think you're up for that, consider taking it to a mechanic that knows what he/she is looking at to atleast get you a good head start.

First place I'd start is to get clear on what year the motor is and if the ECU is a match to the year. Part number for ECU and VIN for the motor is what you'll need. Once you have those, call a dealership and they should be able to confirm.
