Pizza Cutters...

So I like the look of the old school Toyota trucks that had pizza cutter tires on them. Something a little taller and narrower.

My 90 came with 31's from the factory. Thinking about going this route with new tires...

Anyone like this look also?? Thoughts...things to be worried about...etc.

i think you can get 31,32,and 33's in the 9.50 size. Search around i know there have been a few on here to go with the look your talking about. SOem have even created some threads with pics on the topic.

33x10.50 on a 7 inch rim with 4 inch backspace.

I have also run these wheels and tires on my stock 90 truck with no clearance issues but the 4.56 gears are a little tall on the highway.

Yeah, the look isn't for everyone.

I run them because it is the only way that I keep my steering from exploding on every trail run. They work great, but a lot of people think they are too narrow.

The question is, do they work?

After running the 285/75's, I'll never run a wide tire again. I may even go to a narrower. You get the clearance you need, without the weight. In stuff I play in, I don't need wide.

By the way, I think it looks fine. But I suppose it depends on what you're looking for.

I don't think it looks bad either, but like Tacoclimber said, does it work? That's what really matters. If you don't use your stuff, then you can worry about what it looks like. Otherwise for rest of us form FOLLOWS function.

IMHO, up to a 33x10.50 looks good on these trucks.

Now, the 34x9.50 TSL's were pizza cutters!

They work awesome. I just get comments on "wow, those are really narrow. Don't really like that look."

Couldn't really care less, since as you say, its the performance that counts.

Wow, no kidding. Those look sharp, though. (pun intended)

here is an intresting read on tire width, http://www.expeditionswest.com/resea...tion_rev1.html

i like the idea of skinny tires because you can use taller tires with less lift, and less rolling resistance. i do like the wide tire look a bit more, but practicality > looks.

Ike, TC and everyone else running skinnies and IFS you are my heroes!

I love the look of the skinnies and I'm trying to decide between the 9.50s or 10.50s. The argument will basically be decided when I choose between the BFG AT's or MT's. If I can get the same performance on the road, in the snow with the MTs I'll go with those, otherwise it's the 9.50 ATs.

From everything I've read the pizza cutters do very well in almost all the places guys run wide tires. Besides, if there are places the skinny tires won't go I probably don't want to take my truck there.

Well, the only complaint I have about the 9.50s is that they are a pain in the butt to get. When I got them shipped out originally, it took 2 weeks, and then another 2 weeks a roadhazard one after a punctured sidewall. They have to come from the factory, so that kinda sucks.

Yeah, I was gonna say the only thing rarer than a 33x10.50-15 is a 33x9.50-15 LOL

After a bit of research, I'll be going with 33X10.50 BFG AT KOs later this week. I'm more concerned with reducing rolling resistance compared to 33X12.50s, and gaining a tiny bit of clearance from my current 32x11.50s. That and I want to keep my stock alloys.

Andy.
