Let a pro do it! Tinting is a real PITA to make it look perfect. I got my whole truck done, all 16 windows in limo tint for $100 bucks. My friend who works at a benz dealership also does it on the side. If you lived here in Vegas I would hook you up! This goes for any of you guys.
Since you just want the 2 fronts & glare strip done I would think a shop would do it for around $80 bucks or less.

<----i had mine done, i have 5% on all side windows and sun roof, then 15% on the rear window. i think it looks great. but hey i might be biased since it is my truck.
i can post some other pics later, but the work computer doesnt allow me to view pics on here, or go to photobucket.com.

Remember to check your local laws when you tint your vehicle windows.
Tinting darker than legally allowed is not recommended or encouraged.
I had a friend who did such a thing and said "I'll never get caught". Two days later he was ripping off all his brand new tint job or pay a big fat ticket. $$$ down the toilet.

my side windows on my pickup i thought about tinting but i looked at the run marks on them and figured it would just get ruined(from going up and down) it could just be my truck but idk
i have 20% on my side windows of my other truck and it looks really good but when its dark it is really difficult to see out of the windows, i know i can just roll them down if i need to, but it doesnt happen in an instant. i would really not recommend tinting the windshield, to unsafe imo

Here the front 2 windows & glare strip have to be I believe 35% to be legal & the rears can be whatever you want. The police don't enforce that law here very often though. I have had limo tint on all of my vehicles & never been bothered once. Besides, the Highway patrol here have limo tinted windows too.
I do agree that some places are much harsher though.

here is what my truck looked like before i got the tint done, unfortunatly i have the front windows down, but they had a more than stock on the front when i bought it.
and here is what it looks like after i got 5% all the way around except the rear window, is 15%.

I paid 220 for my tint job. the owner of the store was gone when i got qouted and when he found out was upset because apparently it takes more than usual to do a 4runner. and my tint has a lifetime warranty, all i have to do is talk it to a suntek dealer, and get it replaced. I really love the tint, it however make night come ALOT faster, around 5 if im not paying attention ill think its 8, in the summer.

I dont have a runner but I do have tint on my ext cab pickup.
It had the stock tint in the back and 20 up front when I got it. I then decided that I wanted more, so I took it to the shop and had 5 laid on top of all the windows except the windshield. So 5 on top of the 20 is pretty dark, you really cant see in except if the truck is facing the sun. At night its hard to see out and if you need to park or anything that requires precise driving you need to roll them down but its ok with me for having it that dark. I have never goten any problems from the cops around here in SC for having it that dark.
On another note, someone I know tinted their front windshield of their tacoma with aprox 35% and had it for a good little while, but a cop finally stopped him and he got a huge ticket for that.
Tint really isnt that hard to do, I tried it for the first time a couple weeks ago on my buddies s10. Having 2 people really helps and make sure you use plenty of soapy water. Having a quality squeegee helps too.

Um.
Tinting the 4runners darker than stock?
Why? Its already a pain to see out at night time.
Tinting is nice though. The fj we have in arizona has tint on everything but the windshield and it seems to help with the AZ sun.

I want to get my windows tinted more because someone walking buy isnt gonna see things in plain sight as easily. I have 2 subs in the back and you can still see em with the stock tint. Tint also helps keeping everything cool when its hot out.
And a car looks alot better with tint vs no tint.
Seeing out of tint is just fine. Everything is just darker.

The guy who did my windows has all of his personal vehicles tinted 5% all around & the entire front windshield 35%. Now that's a little too much for me. I only do the glare strip in the front.
My truck is kinda hard to see outta at night, sometimes if it's really dark I will roll the windows down a bit. I have 20% on the wife's expedition & I don't like it. The heat & sun light comes through easier. I don't mind the heat but I can't stand the burning rays of the sun if that makes any sense.

I had 20 on my '92 done in Colorado right before I brought it back to Kansas. When I took it to get inspected the guy said I would have to take the tint off and leave it off or get it retinted to the legal amount. I never did and never got bothered by it. But then again the car only ran in the warmer months (always had problems in winter for some reason
) so the windows were always down. I hated trying to see out of them at night though. I took all the tint off my 4Runner and it will most likely stay that way. I can actually see now

Before getting back in to the dealership work, I tinted for a local Tint company
http://www.baltimoretint.com/
Every state has different laws concerning suvs look here for your laws http://www.tintdude.com/laws.html
Here in Md the rear windows have no limit on tint but the fronts are supposed to be 35% or higher.
Our Runners have bronze or blue/gray mirror tint on them, Most shops typically dont do mirror tinting. I installed 20% smoke shade on mine and love it, It doesnt match the rear but I could not see spending $400 plus on a roll of tint that did to do two fronts.
20% is a little tuff to see out of at night but only when backing up, but I just roll the window down.

You cant change the factory tint it is inside the glass.
Your right it doesnt match but I think it looks good(not great) and the benefits of tint are much greater then the slight color match issue IMO
I will post a better pic tomorrow.

I think this is a great question Shawn... this has been bugging me for awhile. My 4Runner has the factory "bronze" tint as refered above. I want to find a tint for the front windows that matches the "bronze" tint. Does anyone out there have a recommendation?
#38
We sold both 3m and Johnsons film. You can check thier websites but I dont think they had a good match for the bronze shade.
#39
And to do that its going to cost, im guessing $300 or so.
I dont know if they have the bronze tint but im sure a quick trip to a tint shop will get you your answer.
Heres a good site to play around on, lol. http://www.autowindowtinting.com/
