Pcv...

Just checked out rockauto for pcv's and they have a few different ones.

http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php
1. Fram
2. Standard Auto Products
3. Airtex
4. ACDelco
5. Beck/Arnley (brass?)

Some seem to be different materials...does it really matter? Are they all metal/steel? Should I just pick the shiny one lol? Why so many?!! I'll be getting the Stand.AutoPro grommet too. Hmmmm, Fram is the cheapest but I'll pay an extra $2 if I have to. I know this is a rinky dink decision in the grand scheme of things but would appreciate any help. Thanks.

I would suggest just getting it from the dealer, thats where I get mine. Im in Ontario and I think the PCV comes to a staggering cost of like 8 bucks CDN. By the time you ship, you arent saving anything.

If you dont want to just clean it out, I would go with the factory one. The other valves (auto junk, etc) are cheap and inferior and could break.

Go with the dealership one. It's around 6 bucks. Sure, Rock Auto is great, but they don't always carry the best products for everything you need...some of their products are top notch, and the same that Toyota uses though.

I would just pick up the cheapest damn one I could find locally. They need to be replaced periodically anyways.

Mine just has a hard plastic elbow - no valve at all. Any ideas what effect that could have?

I got a new PCV valve, just the cheapo Fram.

But who cares, thats not the issue.

I can't get the old one out to save my skin. The bastard is stuck. I can spin it, but can't pull it out, with pliers or anything. I've never encountered an irremovable PCV.

What gives?

Usually it's the grommet that should give, but they get hard very quickly... like right after you put the PCV valve in. Anyways, vice-grips around the PCV valve, a rag and wood block on the valve cover and... PRY LIKE THERE'S NO TOMORROW.
Oh, and I hope you bought a new grommet.

I ended up getting the OEM PCV valve and the old one was alright once I got it out. I had the valve cover off but ya, had a bitch of a time with pliers/vise-grips...I eventually just tapped...well gave it a good shot into the cover just to loosen things up and then just pry, pry, pry. And ya, get a new grommet.
