Paint Time

ok so since my truck is new to me, im all about making it mine, how i like, how i want to see it.

so im taking off the front skid plate i guess u would call it, the one u take off when u change the oil. and im gonna paint it rust oleum stainless steel, im also gonna pull the grill front bumper and the covers around the lights and paint them the likewise first, and then if i dont like it change it around, im thinking maybe metallic black sand if i dont do stainless steel there, im not so sure yet.

then im off to the underside of the truck, im gonna hit the whole frame, atleast what i can get at, with the DA, or something similar, then recoat it all with like 2 or 3 coats of rust oleum gloss black high performance, should keep it all looking good and lasting a bit longer.

then its time for the underside of the bed, im gonna scuff it all, prime it, and then do undercoater on the whole thing

then its the actaul bed, its gettin sanded down, maybe primed, and then hit with like 8 cans of duplicolor spray on bedliner, im going cheap cuz im gonna go cover soon, and i never really use the bed for hardcore stuff, other then snowboards, tools, dirtbike, random stuff, thats it, nothing to heavy or abrasive.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

oh and im looking for a new rear bumper, something that sits up closer and higher to the bed, good for offroading, and i like the single piping look over a square looking bumper. suggestions?

Do you plan on sandblasting the frame? Are yoU going to JUST shoot spray paint on dirt and then wonder why it won't stick?

I AM JUST ASKING 'CAUSE YOU DON'T SOUND LIKE A BODY MAN?!?\

I'm sure he would clean the frame up before rattle canning it...what he's doing is a great idea, it goes a long way as far as preventing corrosion - many people never bother looking at what shape the undercarriage is in and never clean it, so the truck ends up rusting right out from underneath them

I cleaned and rattle canned my frame with Rustoleum Undercoat (Don't do that for the frame rails, comes off pretty easy after a few cleanings.) and suspension with flat black spray.

I suggest scuffing up the entire frame as well as the suspension and axle housings, and coating with flat black Rustoleum spray...I think I used a Rust Tough kind or something. Save the undercoating for beneath the bed, cab, etc.

Post up pics when you're finished!

I think the flat black or high solid semi-gloss would be the way to go on the fram as opposed to the gloss paint. It will look better flat or semi-gloss.
We had some great ZEP brand paint or something that we used (High Solid Semi-Gloss Black) for painting the frames on Mercedes at the Restoration shop I used to work at.

funny you ask lol...actually im quite proficient with body work, my cuzin owns his own body shop, had it for like 10 years now, and he let me sand, prime, bondo, dent removal on my old 91 civic. it looked pretty good, few drips but nothing too bad.

if i had a sandblaster i would sandblast everything, but i dont, so i plan on using the DA, dremel, orbital sander, etc, anything that will remove rust/paint. then im gonna clean everything up with tsp, it will degloss the pain and make everything adhere better, then power wash it all, dry it all up, and hit it with some high perfomance rust oleum(this stuff hold up better then auto paint underneath the car). i live in jerzey, and they salt everything here, so truck underbodies go pretty fast, i mean my trucks fuel lines have been replaced twice already, not by me tho, and i plan on driving this thing till its dead, or atleasts for 3 more years, then making it a project from then on. so im looking to keep rust out, and paint on everything. yes rattle can is cheap, but when done right, it benefits significantly.

paint is my specialtly, no so much cars, but any other type, ive been doing it for like 5 years now, and i know a lot, but im always open to new suggestions, so if ya got another idea, id be more then willing to hear it, give it a try

that looks really good, i changed my mind and will go with flat now, like the way the underside of your truck looks, in my mind the under should look better then the top, cuz thats where all your important stuff is
