Online parts book

Q: Is there a good online parts catalog for our trucks? Mine's an 88, but in any case... Good parts people (like 22REperformance in Chico California) have access to the Toyota database, but how about us mere mortals? I refuse to buy Dorman parts. The dealership parts guy looks at me like I'm from Mars. What resources do we have?

Some tips in reading EPC-Data. The symbols you see in the description mean alot. I've forgotten some, but here are some of the crucial ones. The format you see here mimics our old days with microfiche. Nowadays the EPC software Toyota dealers have needs the VIN, and that does a lot of the work for them. When Toyota shifted away from microfiche to the EPC they didn't really do much about reformatting the older cars to work better on the new software. That's why dealer personnel struggle so hard looking parts up on our older vehicles. They've never been trained how to read the old microfiche terminology since the EPC does it for them on the newer vehicles. So I always look up my part numbers before talking with them

# (hash tag) means all. so when you see something like 22R# that means all 22R engines. Carb, EFI, Turbo. another example: RN5# means all 2wd trucks regardless of anything else
, (comma) means and. Example RN5,RN6 means 2wd and 4wd.
.. (two periods in a row) means only. Example: RN5#, RN6#..SR5 would mean any 2wd and 4wd that are SR5

For mechanical and electrical it's pretty straightforward. It really only gets tricky with body and interior parts.

I use this site to look up parts. Great pics. Click on the 5 digit part number and you get a popup with the 10 digit part number. To change to your year/model etc just click on the year to change that then you can change model, frame code and characteristics.
