So what are the downsides to the 3.4 if any and is it a complete swap over or is a kit needed?

ORS sells a kit for the wiring, many here have done the wiring themselves however. Mechanically, both the 3.0 and 3.4 bolt in to the same frame mounts and the bellhousings are compatible.

^^ That was quite funny

If you got the money, 3.4 is a great swap. One of the easiest swaps that can be done on our trucks. Same engine mounts, tranny bolts right up, same rad etc. etc.

Well I do thank you but I am now down to two options

#1 Rebuild the old 3 slow
#2 swap for the 3.4

Dont know which one yet it will take some research

swap in the 3.4 & use the wiring harness that's already built; it'll save you a lot of time & hassle from what I've read. Also (from what I've read) the 3.4 gets better fuel economy than the 3.0 even though it produces more hp.
