Oil in intake manifold
#1
Hi
1987 22re RV 65,000 miles
I have a small amt of oil in #3and 4 intake
brand new pvc
oilnew and correct qty
did compression test recently all 4 cylinders at 178
just set valves at 8000 & 12,000
runs and idles great but as posted earlier bad gas mileage.
I pulled the manifold today to paint it and am hopeful it’s nothing to alarming
thank you in advance for any input
also any advice on where to purchase a gas gauge sending unit that is not in the 150.00 range

Your idea of a small amount and someone else's could vary quite a lot..
Use a PCV valve from the dealership! These are specified for not just specifically a 22re but right down to a few production runs. The plastic one you'll get from a parts store franchise fits 80-90 engines spanning several decades, as well the odds of it actually sealing when it's supposed to close are near impossible due to the way the two halves are sonic welded down the lenght of the valve..
Is the oil baffle on your valve cover clean, did you oh maybe lay it upside down on the bench at some point which setting valves for example? (Clean it out and let it dry before putting it back on. If you want to be a bit neurotic about it you can drill out the rivets and LCE will sell you a set of bolts to replace them with.)
Is your PCV system intact and in good shape in general? (The other port on the valve cover runs to a port somewhere between the air box and throttle plate, this hose/path is used when the shorter more direct path from the valve is closed and also provides fresh air for the PCV system. If this is blocked due to poor routing and a kinked or collapsed hose you will have higher oil consumption and excessive crank case pressure.)
Your compression number really isn't related to this, even a cylinder leak down test doesn't give quantifiable results here, you can actually measure the crankcase pressure but even that isn't going to be very meaningful outside of an engineering department. The PCV system handles piston ring blow-by and pressure differences due to the pistons motion.

Thanks for your advice .the oil amount is that there are no small puddles but a consistent covering on the pipe walls.no,
Beingthat I am an imposter pretending to be a mechanic I did not clean the valve cover and most probably did lay it down upside down.I also did not know that an oil baffle was an intragal part of the cover, therefore I will be removing it shortly to clean.
I am also going to get the correct pvc valve ASAP.
The other valve port is intact but am uncertain as to where it should connect .Currently I have it connected to the first port beyond the throttle plate heading away from front .
Thankyou
much gratitude.Logically I would assume that if Oil is being introduced into the combustion chamber along with the fuel that mileage could be affected adversely.will the injectors be affected by this to the point of needing attention after resolving the problem.?

Well this is what it looks like when you have a plastic valve, and turbo (with bad seals and a cracked chra).. It drove fine right up until the camshaft failed which was unrelated. I don't know that I have photos of the sparkplugs out of this engine, probably still in it..
I wouldn't be worried about visable dampness like you described, that's vaporized oil deposits and normal.
Injectors aren't effected by this to any large degree.
