odd noise when down shifting??

I have a 92 toyota pick up ext cab. 4wd 5 speed transmission. 3.0L engine 217,000 miles

When I go to down shift into second and first gear i get a weird squeal just for a bit then it goes away by the time the clutch is let out all the way. It doesnt do it every time but it does it more than it doesnt. anyone have any idea what this could be Clutch? Transmission? any help would be great thanks!

Why are you downshifting to 2nd and 1st? Do you want to burn up your clutch? That's what brakes are for and brakes are easier to replace.

yes I down shift as i'm slowing down. When coming up on a turn i down shift into second and take the turn in second gear. When Im at a red light and stopped I then shift my truck into first gear so when the light turns green I can go again. Thats how a standard transmission works right?

if youre down shifting too hard it could be your belts squeeling. If you're not dropping the clutch hard then it could be your throwout bearing getting ready to go.

I would never shift into first unless you're going like 3 MPH or slower, and make sure you double clutch when downshifting. You're putting a lot of load on the syncros and ISB by engine braking that much.

Me? I only engine brake when I'm on a downhill slope. Any other time, I let the clutch out in neutral, and then revmatch into the gear I'm shifting into.

Im not shifting into first when i am moving. Only when im stopped. i will shift into second once im coming up on a turn but im using my brakes to slow me down. It makes the noise only when ive been in second and go to put my truck in first gear. if its sitting in my drive and i put it in first it doesnt do it. but if i have been driving and come up to a red light and then put it in first gear it does it.
