o2 sensor wire

hello all,
I just realized the other night that the wire for the 02 sensor was sitting on top of the exhaust pipe and a bit of the wire casing melted to the exhaust pipe. Rather than wait around and see if it did any lasting dammage I decided to splice in all new wires. One of the wires that I spliced had a tin shielding around it. I was unable to splice in a sheilded wire is that going to be an issue since I am only running the unsheilded wire on the frame under the exhaust. My understanding is that the sheilding is to block RF interfierence, wich I would immagine to be mostly near the engine, and dash. Am I hooped, do I need to get a new wire harness for the engine? Thanks
