O2 sensor location 22re

I am swapping a 91 22re into my 85 4runner (previously had a 22re). My 4runner originally had the o2 sensor located on the exhaust manifold. I’m not sure but I believe the 91 22re had the o2 sensor located on the down pipe before the cat. Are there going to be any issues if I located the o2 sensor on manifold when using the 91 22re? Thanks for any info.

Re-use your manifold and O2 sensor (later models have a 4 wire after the cat, early models use a single wire in the manifold).

You'll have a bunch of other issues - like locations & plugs on various components watch for the differences; may be worthwhile stripping the 91 down to a longblock, then installing the intake/exhaust/accessories off the 85.

Unless you have the harness and ECM from the 91, you'll have to swap over everything and treat it as a long block swap. You may have an issue with the exhaust manifold stud positions on the later cylinder head that may require modification to your exhaust manifold to bolt it up.

JUST use the longblock from your newer engine. Period.

I have all of the wiring and computer from the 91. I think I’ll stick with the 85 EFI to keep it simple.
