Not Starting...Any Ideas

I have an 87 4runner. The other day I went mudding and drowned the engine in a few feet or water. Not starting it I towed it home and did 3 oil changes complete with new filters every time until all the water was out and the oil remained perfectly clean. I then cleaned the K&N filter and air intake. Checked all the fluids which were good. Checked the under carriage, tranny, t-case, front and rear diff. everything checked out fine. Started it and it fired right up. Ran great. Two days later about 30 miles, I was driving down the freeway and the engine died. I tried several times to start it but nothing. I checked all the fuses and all are fine inside the cab and under the hood. I removed the fuel pump and it tested fine. I then checked to see if I was getting power to the EFI at the injectors and I got NOTHING…. I looked over the EFI module and I did not see anything that indicated it may have shorted out. It did not get wet. What would cause the injectors to not get the power it needs to function? Thank you everyone for you help and ideas…

How did you check for power at the injectors?

My friend has a tester that you plug in to the wire the plugs into the injector and when you try to start the engine the tester should flash on and off as the current goes to that injector. We got nothing. So now were following the wires back and checking for any dirt, corrosion, loose wires and so forth. Still no idea on what it could be…..

Are you getting any trouble codes from the ECU?

Couple of things could cause no injector firing like no signal from the distributor pick-up coil or ignitor to the ECU.

If you pull a spark plug wire off and hold it about 1/4 inch from the engine, does it make a spark when you try to start the truck?

Are you not getting voltage or are you not getting a ground signal to the injectors?? Two VERY different things, both of which will not let the noid light come on.

check to see if your getting 12v to the blk/yel wire that goes to the injector resistor when the key is on, if so, that means that your getting power to them but they are not seeing ground from the computer, which could be a number of reasons

Well the nightmare is over. I first wanted to say thank you all for your help. It really made a big difference trying to find the problem and luckily for me I have a buddy who has a Toyota only truck and 4Runner wrecking yard that let me use a computer and coil w/ igniter. Only to find out none of those were the problem. The problem was a broken wire between the coil igniter to computer. By this time each wire was being check for continuity which is how it was found. So now I’m up and running just in time to play in the mud. Thanks again for everyone’s help. Just goes to show that true Toyota lovers are true friends.
