noob 4Runner question

Looking through CL today and found a 1986 4Runner, the guy says it has no 4wd, which confuses me because I thought all early 4Runners had 4wd. Is it possible someone just did rude things to this truck, or did they come in 2wd originally?

If it doesn't have 4WD the driveshafts were disconnected or something or it's broken

All 1986 4Runners were 4WD. I would assume he eithers means that 4WD doesn't function, or someone has removed the 4WD system. Obviously best way would be to call him.

Called him. He said it doesn't even have the 4wd shifter, supension, etc. Sounds like I don't even want to mess with this truck

I wouldn't. It's either been hacked up or worked on for some reason to make it 2wd.

Im going with that one. All 86-89 4Runners came with the exact same suspension. Unless parts were removed, it should all be there. How much does he want for it? If its in great shape, i would go take a look at it. If its something besides an 86 4Runner, point out how he is an idiot.
