noise from front end in 4wd

noise from front end in 4wd
i have a 87 runner and when im in 4wd my front end makes a grinding noise i think its just my bad bearings but not sure and it only happens when im in 4wd anyone that can help that would help

ha man my 87 did the same thing,i changed the hubs the bearings,and went back and tittened the bearrings after a coulpe 100 mi or so,,,,and you know what ,it still make that noise,,but when i step on the gas it goes away i cant figer it out....but i only use my 4w4 when i play so ill just wait till something breaks . i think the noise is the frount axels being so worn if they are stock!!!!

I had that happen to my 86. Got progressivly worse. Turned out to be bearings in axel shaft. If the protective boot is damaged, it doesnt take long for water to wash out the bearing grease. The bearings will wear and fall out one by one, making a louder and louder sound. But those shafts are not that expensive. Good luck
