No more surging

I was searching for surging problems for the 22re and a post came up on IH8MUD.

I took mine off and cleaned it and the surging has stopped.
Douse anyone know what that valve is called? The coolant hose is connected to the IAC.

Hey I wonder if that thing being plugged could be part of the cause for a high cold idle? Might be doing some cleaning this weekend to see if it helps. If water can't flow into the IACV then I'm guessing it might be part of the problem.

And I would think if it didn't flow, it would affect idle like you have probs with junkers. I thought surging was a high idle and the computers response was the loping idle during braking. But if it solves the problem, it solves the problem. Hope it works!

Kiyo those links are dead.

I'd love for it to be that little valve thing since my IACV is a pain to remove.

edit: I see you noticed the dead links already.

I spent $300 at the local dealer and they couldn't find the problem, and i replaced the maf and iac with no luck and cleaned that little port and it fixed my surging.

Man I hear you about spending money and then fixing it yourself. I dropped a large portion of my slush fund at the local place when I had my 86 to find out why it idled so bad and the diagnosis was everything from worn brake shoes to old oil. Turned out to be an intake gasket..... I do my own work now.

I'm glad you found this as I'll try cleaning that little thing and see if my cold idle lowers at all.

Yeah I tried posting them to make it easier for folks to look at it. They denied me.

Let us know that works on your idle.

Bringing up an old thread here since I finally pulled that little part to see if it was clogged. Well it wasn't clogged but it's damn sure bent and was cross threaded by whoever took it out before.

Any idea what it's called? I contacted the local parts place and the guy had no idea what I was talking about since I don't know what it's called? I'd like to replace it.

This is the month to fix this freaking idle issue.

Haven't been to White Sands in a long time so I can't give you any good info. If you get into Albuquerque though we can go find a place or two to wheel. I'll even cook you a steak.

Ah there are a lot of Jeeps here also although I do see the occasional Toyota (usually up on chrome 20's) in town. We have a couple places to wheel, nothing crazy except for this, which I have NOT tried... yet.

I'm sure we can find something to go mess around on, perhaps some land bureau service trails.

Let me know if you come this way, send me a pm or something and I'll send you my phone number. Heck if you have to stay overnight I've got an apartment that I don't use for you to sleep in.
