Building up a new 22RE for my 86 truck:

Here's an album of her:

It's bored 40 over, It's got a cam, 2.5" header and exhaust. The lack of IM requirements means I can pretty much do whatever.

Should I skip the Cat and go straight to a muffler?

Should I omit the EGR valve?

Should I put on a AFM from an old supra?

What else can I do?

Use upper intake and throttle body from later model 22re. Did you polish and port head? If so and funds allow send them to maxbore to be bored out. I'm not running a cat. Yes, with other mods a supra AFM makes a difference.

Thanks muddpigg.

Haven't polished and ported the head yet. kinda on the fence as I would probably just buy a RV head if I was going that route: http://www.engnbldr.com/head-shop.html

Ommiting the EGR will make it run a bit hotter but should keep the engine more clean right?

Almost forgot. Will any of these help?

Also, define "late model 22RE"

I'm not sure what year the intake stuff is from. How can I tell?

LCE plates will work, but I always just trimmed one out of a soda can.

Late model TB and intake is after 89. Straight not turned down. Will need throttle cable too.

Polish and port with OS valves and cam is on point. I'm not a highway guy so 260 cam. Engnbldr has a third cam I found interesting and would call about for more info. But not building an engine anytime soon.

I just trimmed a piece of soda can to fit between EGR and intake so all components are still mounted. I didn't have pair system. Good luck, gonna be an awesome motor.
