No Knock signal, code 52
I have been experimenting since I replaced the wire harness to the computer with shielded cable, grounded at engine and at computer box on shielding, replaced knock sensor and replaced pigtail. when timing is set at 10 degrees as factory set, the knock sensor sets a code at about 1800 rpm, by time I hit 2ed gear. When I advance the timing base to 20 degrees the sensor code is not set until I hit 4th gear after the rpm drops below 2500. If I keep my foot into it I can avoid the code set until I back off to cruise. The knock sensor is set to a certain hertz frequency. I have noticed a lot of threads that say it has trouble after a rebuild, some have even replaced the whole system and still have problem. could it be that there is no knock to sense, in otherword, the detonation (ping) is not showing up with the new rebuilds. Could the sensor be out of range for newer piston designs or change of combustion pressures? what about mixture issues or fuel (ethanol blends) It sure seems that I can keep the light off for longer time by advancing the base timing. are we chasing a ghost which doesn't exist? Anybody? Thanks, B
