NEW Thorley 3.0 (3VZE) Headers

After searching for header info here & on pirate till I had a beard to my arse last night, I finally called Thorley (saw a post somewhere about them working on one from July of 04!) & talked to Randy there. Nice guy! We talked for a good 5-10 mins. - mostly him talking excitedly about this new header he had planned to release towards the end of June. He said something about how they "picked up" Downey's line awhile back (what ever that meant) & have been planning to introduce a new header for us 3.0 guys that will be loosely based on Downey's design but made the Thorley way! He wants to add a ball & socket @ the collector & change their "y" pipe design. I told him that's exactly what needs to be done because w/ Downey & NWOR being the main competitors out there, someone has to step up w/ a good product & good customer service - plain & simple.

So needless to say, I'm going to wait around till Thorley gets this done. Just glad I don't need this asap!!

So pass the word on about this new header. Call Randy @ Thorley & express your ideas or enthusiasm for the new parts. Maybe it will help speed things up some & help w/ the design too???

Cheers!!

That would be nice to have some one else in the running for 3.0 headers. If they make a better product, and aren't to much higher in price, then they would be a welcome competitor.

Why higher in price?

Why should thorley headers cost more than downey or NWOR? One would think that with their broader product line they could offer the 3.0 headers at a better price than the others...
I want to see what they come up with, and just what kind of numbers they get. Aviator

Man, that's the best news I've heard in a while. I have been torn between NWOR and Downey for over two years now. I see issues with both really. The main issue with NWOR is just having to deal with them. That is always a scary and risky move. I was just going to give up on headers if it meant having to buy anything from them again.

Great News

I have a set of Thorley headers on my 88 22re, installed in 1990. These have been great with no problems and quality construction. I heard that sometime ago Thorley was sold and that the products being produced were not as good as before. I hope that that has changed. I'll be one of those waiting for the new headers.

I have a Thorley on my 22RE also. It was actually cheaper than NWOR's or Downey's offerings. No leaks.

Yeah, he seemed real proud of the success the 22RE headers have had & said these should be just as good.

He said he had the drawing for them sitting right there so hopefully he gets to them soon! I've got an annoying exhaust leak right behind the muffler & it's screaming @ me every day....

Maybe if there's enough interest we can talk him into a group buy?????
Anyone interested?!

IMO, they could be the same price or SLIGHTLY more than NWOR or Downey & I'd be fine with that...it's the fitment, quality of product & customer support that I REALLY care about!

Keep the interest coming....

Hi
I am in for a group buy, but they have been promising to roll out these headers for over a year now and everytime I call, I get were close, but not there yet. I hope your getting it straight and you are not being jerked around. They have been listed on their website for some time now and the link for them goes nowhere. Most other links like the 22re headers at least take you to a drawing. I am interested but skeptical that they will actually be available to the public before the end of June, or July. We'll see, I hope they prove me wrong.

My main question is if the headers are California smog legal or not. So far the only ones that are CARB (California Air Resources Board) approved are the Downey headers. For us West Coasters, that's a deal breaker.

Updates!!!!

Just got off the phone with Randy - said they started the headers this week!!

They will be made of 14 ga - have a thick flange @ the head - ball & socket @ the collector & will be smog/carb approved.

Expect them in the next 4-6 wks & wanted me to continue to stir up interest.

He wasn't sure what he could do for a group buy - but would possibly consider it for 100% interested buyers!!!

I'm supposed to keep in touch with him -so I'll keep you posted on the latest!!!

Cheers!
