New Member+New Pickup+Seized Engine=Mod Time!
Well, this is my first post on YT and I've got plenty to talk about already.
First off, a bit of background: Newly purchased 92 Pickup, 22RE, 5sp, 4x4 with lift. Drove it 120 miles home, next morning the engine seized. Long story short, after numerous hours under the hood myself, mechanic found a machine bolt lodged in the flywheel/clutch. Also, timing chain guide made it to the oil pan in pieces.
My current plan is to do some modifying while I have the engine partially dismantled. Here's where you guys come in. I'm giving some details below but being as I'm new to the Pickup world, does anyone have any recommendations in-tune to these?
I've been doing some research and have looked at a few things to upgrade (instead of paying a mechanic $1200 to replace a chain). I'm looking at an LCE timing chain kit upgrade, LCE Street Header, and a new clutch (haven't looked into the clutch yet other than the basic kits). Along with the standard gaskets and seals of course. I am planning on doing the rebuild myself with some help for the heavy stuff.
My question to you guys is if I should be aware of any sticky situations I may be getting myself into. Advice? Recommendations? Cookies? Beer?
Just checkin'
The pickup is my 3rd vehicle since I started driving a decade ago. I had an 86 Mr2 that lasted forever, and I currently am driving a 90 Celica. I'm more than familiar with Toyota's and their often-touchy nature, but I wouldn't trade the experiences for anything. I'm looking forward to exploring the forum and what all of you have to say.
Thanks,
Andy
