Hey all,
I just got a 1989 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4x4 with the V6. 5-speed Manual Transmission.
The truck was out in California for the first half of its life, and now it is here in NY with me.
Mechanically, everything works. Cosmetically, it has a frame with only surface rust, nothing major.
The only cosmetic issue is that the fenders above the rear tires are rotting away. They are not TOO terrible yet, and I was considering putting some sort of rust-stopper on the inside and outside of the damage, and then investing in fender flares to conceal all of it.
The rest of the body is rust free. Is this a good idea, bad idea? What is the best stuff to use to stop the body rust dead before installing flares?
Unfortunately, a true restoration of the body is not possible financially.

my 91 pickup v6 has a lot of rust on it, I ended up sanding it all down in and out, and spraying it to get it to stop casusing more problems,
I think your on the right track with it, and nice looking truck by the way. I wish mine came with only that little rust!
im hopeing to pull my body off this summer and scratch and paint my frame and axles, cause upstate NY is just going to kill this frame sooner or later if I don't.
