So after forever, I finally got some lockers! I found a front and rear brand new lock rights for 300 dollars on cl! Drove 2hr 45mins to get them and then back today. When I got back me and my buddy went to work on the rear. After a few hours we got everything back together and were ready to test it! It ended up being extremely simple to install, a lot less complicated then I first thought. We went to the nearest dirt parking lot and spun some tires and did a couple donuts. Let me just say WOW to the difference with just the rear locker. Then we headed to a couple hills that I used to spin but just crawled right on up! Next test we headed for a mud hole, its a night and day difference in what my truck can do now and what it could do before. I have had a smile on my face ever since we let it down off the lift.

Tomorrow we are planing on installing the front locker, is this the same as the rear? I know the rear is 4 pinion since its a V6 and the front is 2 I think? Will that mean I have to remove the whole ring gear from the carrier? Any other tips that will help out since this will be the first time removing the front diff?

I didnt have a camera with me to take pictures of the install, but the write up I found on here was awesome, just like the one of 4x4wire. Mostly you can just use the directions the locker comes with but it helps to see what other people have to say too.

After we install it tomorrow, if it isnt dark outside, Ill get some serious pics of testing it

Never done the front, but I've dropped the diff.

1. drain oil
2. Undo the one electrical plug and two vacuum hoses (label) if you have ADD (shift on the fly)
3. Unbolt CV's (lock the hubs to do this)
4. Crack the the bolts holding the IFS chunk to the frame
5. place a floorjack under the diff
6. undo the two rear-most bolt
7. undo the front bolt
8. with the help of a STRONG friend, lower the diff to the ground on using the jack. Have the friend stabilize the diff.
9. pop the front cover off
10. pull or pry the carrier out- DON'T mix up which side the shims came off
11. install locker as you did the rear
    

 

sweet! Lockers make donuts so much fun Its so much fun to go over stuff in 2wd that used to require 4wd...

 

I love driving down streets with two wheels on the same side in the snow and NO tire slip. No open 4wd can do that. I also love having a very stock looking 4Runner and being able to drive over, through and out of some pretty ugly stuff that trucks with mud tires and huge lift cannot.

Thanks for the links guys! I ended up not being able to install the front today since we had to replace the carrier in my buddies 2wd s10 daily driver. The pinion shaft ?(the part that holds the spider gears together) had busted the carrier where it goes in and it was wobbling around so didn't want to drive around with that gear explosion waiting to happen.

I have had a smile on my face and told everyone I have seen about my locker today! Its actually not very noticeable. I hardly hear it around corners unless my window is down and radio off and off the gas. You can feel it lock and unlock occasionally if you romp down on the gas while coasting but that was when I was trying to feel it. I cant wait to get the front in! Oh btw I love yotatech haha!
