silver stars, or xtravisions?

i used to run silverstars, but they dont last very long before they blow so i switched to xtravisions which are slightly less bright, but still way brighter than normal lights, and last a lot longer than the silverstars

They are xtravisions. I didn't get the silverstars because I heard they didn't last long.

I don't know why everybody has problems with silverstars not lasting long, or maybe it's just silverstars in toyotas. I've had 4 silverstars in my 99 Saturn, 2 high beams, 2 low beams. Super bright, had them in for almost 6 years now, no problems.

I haven't gotten around to replacing the bulbs in my 4Runner yet though.

I had silverstars in a ford explorer. I had one go out after 9 months of use. Figured it was just the one bulb. At autozone at the time they were running a deal on pairs of silverstars. It was 1 bulb for $20, or 2 for $25 after rebate. I didnt want to wait for the $15 rebate, so i just got the one. The other sides bulb went out about a week later, and so i ended up having to spend another $20 for em.

My point is they dont last very long in my experience. I've had the xtravisions on my truck for about 10k miles, and they're still going strong. Plus they're like half of what the silverstars cost.

just a thought perhaps the filaments in the silverstars can't handle the vibrations from the rougher ride you get in a truck and this is why they are not lasting as long compared with car use...

the cheaper xtravisions are probably more robust...

i had the same exp in my cars with silverstars going out quick. then i thought about how much i've spent over time on fancy bulbs trying to get the hid performance and compared it to true hid kits which have gone way way down in the past year.

compare a fancy pair of piaa bulbs or other brands that actually work not the blue $5.95 bulbs and you can pay around $50 for them and expect them to go out in about a year. or... you can now buy a real 8k hid kit for less then a $100. there is no comparison b/t even the best bulb and a korean hid kit.

yes, first gen trucks/runners did not come with projector lights which is what you need to get optimum performance but... you can buy those for less then $30. then we're talking about an hour instal.

just something to think about. i'll post pics when i get mine done (got some other things on the list first).

Maybe they just last in Saturns. My 96 has had them for 4 years now. It had some Sylvania cool blues when I got it. The Silverstars are so much nicer.

what about Hella H4's

I went through several different lights before I stumbled unto the H4's. These lights have been such a blessing. They throw fire at the road and you can replace the bulbs without taking the whole dang grille off. I don't live near a schmucks or a kragen so I do most of my shopping on the net. I guess they were pretty pricey though. But yeah, great improvement to your rig. nice...

I just replaced my first Silverstar after having them in for 4 years the other day. I drive with my lights on whenever I'm on the freeway too.
