New here, 4Runner questions

Hello Guys, I just picked up a 90 4Runner with the 3.0 V6. It's got 100K, Auto 2WD and I have some questions.

First, the front pass side feels like it's falling apart when going over a bump, I would assume it's the shock/strut? The tie rods seem to have too much free/soft play.

The Over Drive light keeps flashing on the panel, but it kicks into OD when I step on it.... the speedometer stopped working on the way home. What could it be? I went under and the cable seems to be in the tranny.

The AC doesn't work (cool) it won't kick in the compressor, but I will play with it and change it to R-134 and recharge in the next day or so. I will change some body parts like the front valance and 2 bumper corners, but everything else is great. Plus it was FREE!!! It's my first Toyota and import vehicle.

I just changed the oil/filter and was going to change the PCV, but I'll wait to make sure I do it in daylight and get the rubber that goes with it. I like the vehicle and will spend the $$$ to bring it back mechanically, it has no rust or accidents, just needs a shampoo and some good cleaning.

Thanks for the feedback,

Eli.

welcome, have fun with your new truck! FYI your PCV valve is on the passenger side valve cover which is buried under the intake plenum and could take you a few hours to replace, just be sure to take lots of notes and label all of the vacuum lines before dismantling.

Thanks!

Fortunately, I'm motor-friendly so I'll be learning this new motor. Currently I own an 04 Mustang GT that I just built with a nitrous motor so I don't mind getting my hands dirty. She will be a good addition to my toy box.

take your cable off your tranny and check that the piece is still intact, if you can spin it and see if your speedo moves(with a buddy of course). If it doesnt then most likely your cable's bad..

I will try that. There seems to be some trans fluid coming from the driveshaft input at the tranny.... I tried recharging the AC but it never kicked in. However when I turn the AC switch on inside, I feel the idle increase in the engine...
