1400 miles on a new engine. Trying to figure out if it is to lean or not. I have a mixture gauge installed and it says to rich at Idle and optimal at cruse. Getting only 14 mpg highway and 13 city. Runs strong with ported heads but I am concerned that the chamber and valves are not getting much color. Pics attached
.
No, there is no pinging that I can hear. The engine runs fine and very strong. It originally was leaving powdery carbon on the valves and black deposits on the piston surface so I went two clicks clockwise (lean) on the air valve. Then the one valve was getting a very light yellowish deposits on the valves. I then went another click and now the carbon on the pistons is gone and the valves are clean as in the pictures. I have never had one go clean on me before. Worries me that it's so clean. Does that mean it's to lean? Here is a pic of before I leaned the mixture.
Its a borescope I managed to pic up on ebay for 15 dollars. It was a typo on the add. It was supposed to be 1500 dollars. It's really handy.
Problem is, you find a lot more that you would not usually question. Like the mixture. Can't fine much reference to valve color, or lack of.
